To all of the hard working IMPD personnel,
A big heartfelt thank you for all that you do!!
As a citizen of Indianapolis, Irvington area, I would not have your jobs for love or money. I know that so many of you work so hard to make a difference, and you do! I appreciate you when nothing is going on, and all seems peaceful and quiet in my immediate life and my surroundings. I appreciate you even more, when it is not.
As a nurse, I know that at the end of long day, I am totally spent out. I think to myself, "If I have to hear about anybody else's bowels, or someone elses pain, I think I will just simply scream." Yet, somehow, not often, there are times, when someone acknowledges the hard work that I have done, and said "Thank-you." It is just nice to hear every once in awhile. It reminds us that not "Just anyone" could do this job, but rather that the jobs that you men and women in law enforcement, being the IMPD, are actually special, and jobs filled by unique individuals.
You have accepted a calling that most of us would not have accepted. Special thanks to all of you IMPD men and women who helped make the gun buy back program at Ellenberger UCC on this past Saturday such a huge success. We, at the end of the day had gathered 65 guns off the streets, and passed out 21 gun locks. Granted, I am sure that we did not get the guns off the streets from the thugs, but at least if they break into someones home that turned their gun in they won't have access to that one...
Keep your chin up and continue to do the right things, someday, maybe not this life, but someday....it will all pay off. In the meantime, please know that I am not alone in thanking all of you for the work that you do. There are many law abiding citizens who are genuinely thankful for all that you do.
I make it a special point when I see any of the IMPD to personally thank you for your commitment, and to please be careful, because you are very important people. Maybe someday I will meet you. In the meantime, take care of yourselves, and love your families, as life is so short, and certainly unpredictable.
